Introduction

In MoneyWiz you can generate various reports which help you understand your financial status. Different reports are used to show you different type of information. For example, Compare Budgets report shows you the areas you spend most, while Net worth report shows you the graph of your finances for some period. Depending on what you are interested in your can generate various reports in order to find the information that you need.

Orientation

Reports are only meaningful when you have entered transactions for at least some small period of time. You will not be able to generate an account balance report if you don’t have any transactions in this account. The same is valid for budgets and categories.

  • How to generate them
  • How to interact with them to extract more information
  • What options you can use

Generate Reports

Click on the icon of any report and you will be presented with options to adjust the report data.

All reports allow you to select various periods of time. If you want to see more details you will need to select shorter period, on the other hand if you are interested in the overall picture you can select All Times.
Each report also allows settings specific to the report, for example account balance report allows you to select which accounts you want to see, and in budget balance report you can’t select accounts, because it’s not relevant.
Once you are ready with the set up, click Generate and the you will be presented with beautiful graphics of your report and relevant information about the picture.
Notice the Edit button above – you can quickly adjust all of the report’s settings.

Types of Reports

With MoneyWiz for Mac you can generate various types of reports, which cover almost everything you’d want to know about your finances.

Net worth report

If you want to see how you net worth changed over certain period of time, you can quickly access this information with Net worth report.

Trends report

With Trends report you can compare your expenses and your incomes for desired period of time. You can also configure different breakdown periods like weeks, months and years.

Categories report

The report by categories is one the most comprehensive reports in MoneyWiz – it used to show your expenses as spendings on different categories. It can also show your incomes as earnings from different categories.

Forecast report

Based on your scheduled transactions MoneyWiz for Mac predicts what your balance might be for a period of time in the future. For example you can see how your balances will change over the next 6 months. Note that we use dashed lines, because this is only a prediction.

Note that you can consolidate all accounts to see a the Total NetWorth Forecast. Just click on the plus button at the lower right of the graphic.

Account balance report

If you want to see how the balance of any account changed over time, or compare 2 accounts, you can use the Account balance report to extract this information. You can view the selected accounts separately or grouped.

Budget balance report

When you want to see how much you spend in a specific area for past periods, you can run Budget balance report. MoneyWiz calculates how much you spend and compares it with how much you allocated.

Compare budgets report

Use Compare budgets report to see how much money you allocate on each specific area of expenses. The report uses your budgets and the amount of money you spend in each of these budgets.

Payees report

Payees report shows how much you spend on each payee for a given period of time. You can also use this report to see how much you earn from each payee, if you configure the report to show your incomes.

Statistics report

Last but not least – you can view average spendings, earnings, top categories and payees, and various statistical information on your finances.

Interaction

Once a report is generated you can extract even more information if you interact with it. First and most important – you can view the reports on full screen – just click on the magnifier. Then you can see your reports with much more details.

For example you can slide your finger by the vertical axis to see more accurately the amount of money on particular point.

You can also move your finger by the horizontal line to see an accurate date and the amount of money on this date.

Click anywhere on the graph and you will see more information about this point.

Or you can ungroup the accounts and see even more details.

Go back to detailed report (on part of the screen) if you need to browse the transactions that make up this report.

Options

Export in PDF

With MoneyWiz for Mac you can export reports in beautiful PDF files if you want to share them with someone, like your accountant for example. Just press Save and select Export to PDF – you will be provided with an option to e-mail this file to yourself.

Export to CSV

You can also export them in convenient CSV format if you want to open with Excel or Numbers, or convert them to another data format. Just press Save and select Export to CSV – you will be provided with an option to e-mail this file to yourself.

Saving a report locally within MoneyWiz

If you are frequently interested in the same piece of information – like how much you spent on a certain category last month, you can save a report so you can access this information quickly. Just click Save Report from the lower right end of the screen, then select Save locally.

All reports in MoneyWiz are dynamic. If you do this in February, the report will show you information about January, but when you access it in March, the report will start showing you data for February (considering that you selected last month), provided that you chose one of the Pre-defined periods to generate the report (Last Month, Last three month, etc.).

Summary

Reports are powerful tool which helps you understand your finances better. It can give you insights about where and when you money are spent, how they’ve been earned and interacting with these reports can give you even more details.
